I recently pulled off my intake and exhaust manifolds on a 225 slant six so that I could paint them plus the engine and when reinstalled, the engine seems louder and has a choppier idle. I replaced the all gaskets and installed a K&N air filter. What could be the problem?

vacuum leak?

have everything hooked back up and intake gasket not leaking?

I have used carb cleaner and sprayed around the intake, but w/ the fresh paint I'm not sure I would do that. Maybe wd40? if your intake is leaking should kill the motor when you spray around intake.

Upon further inspection, I did not find any leaks, but realized that the idle is not choppy. It seems more like it's just louder. I removed the intake heat control valve could that have anything to do with it?

Found it! The exhaust manifold is leaking where it bolts to the intake. Thanks for the WD-40 idea :-D
