Engine Number Location?

Can anyone tell me where to find the engine sequence number on a 1965 383?
It's the HP version and in a C-body.
There is numbers on the pad next to the dizzy but they're just the engine plant,date,model,etc.
There's nothing on the pad on the LHS opposite the dizzy.
Any help greatly appreciated.

the vin wasn't on engines until sometime in the 68 model year.

So that means there is no actual engine number?

Should be a casting number and date on the drivers or passenger side of the block below the heads. It'll be raised - part of the casting metal. Otherwise there are no vin numbers as noted above.
