My Dart has an a-904 from the 80's with the lock-up torque converter. Recently It's developed a shifting issue, at light throttle acceleration while shifting from 2nd to 3rd it will allow the engine to rev a couple hundred rpm before engaging into gear. Just wondering if it can be resolved by either line pressure or band adjustment, or if it's something more serious.

Could be your fwd clutch going out. Just had it happen to my 727. It acted like it shifted into neutral for a second then go into drive. When i tore it apart to rebuild it the fwd clutch discs were fried.

Make sure your kickdown linkage is using full travel and hooked up. Sounds like a classic case of either no kickdown hooked up or misadjusted to me.

The throttle pressure linkage is the first thing I'd check. Like 72BBSwinger said make sure it's going all the way when the throttle is held wide open. If that's working correctly it's probably the front clutch pack is toast.
