Engine vin. number location

I know that a portion of vin. numbers after 67 can be found on the passenger side pan rail of the motor and transmission. I found the numbers on my 68 Barracuda on the bellhousing in about the 11 oclock position. Is that normal for all 383 engine cars?

That's the spot for 68's

69 and up are on the pan rail.

Yes. My 68 340 has the number in the same spot.
