Exhaust manifold bolts/studs

Is it the exhaust manifold studs on each end of the smallblock head that go into the water jacket? Do any of the bolts? Thanks.

Yes, the end holes go into the water jakets. I just did some on my van and used studs with rtv. Much easier to hang the manifold later or service them without making a mess. I just used a set of carb studs from the performance section at Oreilly's. Worked great!

Yes, the outer holes in the head for the exhaust are through holes that go into the water jacket...

I like to use studs as it's easier to start the other bolts after you get them hung...

You can put some sealer on the outer studs, or I use the powdered stop leak in the radiator on first start up and that finds and stops all the leaks...
