Hey Posse,

I'm throwing this question out to the general membership
hoping for good news.
My sweet little '72 Dart Swinger 318 has developed an
exhaust leak I'm pretty sure is at one of the exhaust
manifolds. Both manifolds are rusted as is normal.

The gaskets have been replaced at some point in the
past so the bolts have been removed.
My question pertains to any chronic history of the bolts
breaking off during the removal process.
I can't do this simple repair myself anymore so my
mechanic is making the repair next week.

I soaked all the bolts with PB Blaster yesterday.

As always, thanks for your input.

Keep soakin em. Also a 'heat-up' with a torch, then squelch with a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone. Then when the time comes to remove the bolts, be patient. Your first direction should be to TIGHTEN (clockwise) the bolts, ever so slightly. Then, carefully begin counter clockwise rotation, and occasionally, clockwise, then counterclockwise repeatedly until the bolts come out.

i understand your concern...but if your mechanic is doing the job why not trust him to know the proper approach?

And if you do break one off, don't try to get it out with an easy-out. just drill and tap it.
every time I have tried to use those easy-outs they end up breaking off in the head and then they are impossible to drill out.
