hey guys... i will be installing a one wire alt into my dads 68 cuda and he wants the stock amp gauge to work. anybody done this? ive never had to worry about the gauges working on any of the cars ive built... thanks!!!
"One wire" generally suggests a great big alternator, 80a or so. I would NOT put one on a stock system because of the problems with the bulkhead connectors. You could TRY a smaller bypass wire to share some of the current, but if you DO try and keep the ammeter, pull the bulkhead apart, inspect, repair as necessary. So far as hookup, all you do electrically, is simply hook the "one wire" to the existing charging wire and hope it doesn't burn something up!!
