Factory exh tips-How far out beyond valance?

What's the proper distance or shall I say how much of a factory exhaust tip extends out past the bottom edge of the valance on a say 72 Dart?
The tips have the tab at the top which allow for some adjustment front to back so there must have been a spec on it.
The exhaust tip is of course cut at an angle at the outlet end........

The tips on my Demon stick out about 1 1/2" from the bumper.....They look good IMO :smile:

My guess is that they probably didn't stick out that far originally. A lot of Challengers have their tips out farther then original too. I'm trying to find some original factory literature from 70-71 to see if they show the tips.

I think they look better in farther to tell you the truth.

Thanks for the input! I haven't been to the Mopar Nationals in some time (or other meets for that matter) so your thoughts and pictures help a lot! Well not the Mercedes picture so much...........
