Being it's a discussion that comes up often now, I took the initiative to talk to Ken at Oregon Cam Grinders and am sharing what he's able to do with 5.2/5.9 LA hydraulic roller cams.

There are several different cam profiles for the 5.2L/5.9L roller cams. Most of the truck cams are on 106 to 111 lobe sep and most the the passenger car cams are 114 to 116. We have ground a lot of them lately. We can move the sep a couple of degrees one way or the other and increase the lobe lift to about .320” maybe .340” depending in what core you have.

As well as something else to be aware of...
We can regrind a hydraulic flat tappet cam into a mechanical flat tappet cam but we cannot grind it into a roller. The lobe placement is not correct and the material is not durable enough. There are a couple of re-grinders out there doing it but they are failing right and left. A flat tappet lobe is not centered under the lifter bore, it is offset to promote lifter rotation. If you run a roller lifter on it, it will run half off the lobe and fail. The lobe on a roller cam is centered so the roller runs completely on the lobe center.
