sort of. my engine's being bored 30 over to suit the new pistons, so i'll have nice straight bores. generic plasma moly rings tend to have generous end gaps so would it be 'ok' to get 40 over rings and then using my ring grinder/filer get them to where i want the gaps to be? it's just a thought. the car will be a street car with no strip use so i don't need 'race' parts.
neil.

I got some cheap hastings plasma rings for a 4.03” bore. All the gaps were perfect. I opened one ring up just a bit, they were all .020” gap if i remember correctly.

I thought the OP had a post where he was putting something together with KB hypereutectics……. Which need wider gaps anyway.

That will be the best thing to do. KB pistons are notorious for busting the top ring land if the gap is too tight. Just file them to KB's specs or ever so slightly bigger. Then be sure to dress the ends you filed with a fine grit stone so they don't scratch the cylinder walls. Sharp edges create hot spots too, so you will eliminate that by dressing the ends/corners.
