My 71 dart has the 71 ECS or whatever it's called gas cap and filler neck. I am swapping out the gas tank soon and at the same time I'm switching filler neck to the 72+ style so I have the more common gas cap.

I took a close look and noticed something though. See pics below. This is a '75-'76 unleaded style filler neck, uses the same cap as '72+. I was told by someone if switching may as well go this route since it has the anti-spash-back flapper.

As you can see on my 71 ECS filler neck it mounts from inside the trunk. The screw hole pattern is different from the slot pattern of the 75/76 filler neck. Also the depth, it looks like the 75/76 filler neck won't stick through the body far enough especially with the foam gasket in place.

Do the 72+ and/or 75-76 filler necks mount differently?

Yes. The later filler neck mounts from the outside, rather than from the inside. And yes, you'd have to drill new screw holes. You may have a bit of adaptative cleverness ahead of you, but it shouldn't be too hard.

just throwing this out there, but if i were to replace the filler neck on my 71, id go with one from a spaceduster, it gives a little more room in the trunk
