Here is what's left of the gas tank on my 65 Barracuda. Just needs a little JB weld. lol. The section of the filler tube that was in the tank was rusting away also and full of rust, so it's going to have to come out also. Any tips and tricks to get this out? I guess the vent tube just attaches to the new filler tube? Thanks!

Take the vent tube off and snake it out.
Not as hard as it looks. That other tube is the hang up. SN: keep that tank. It’s only bad on the top. I’m sure it will sell. lol!

I set it by the road with a free sign. Man does the gallon of 30 year old gas in the bottom of it smell good.

The vent tube dead ends just after it goes through the trunk floor inside your frame rail. No this isn't a joke...

It is a vent INTO your gas tank. When your fuel pump pumps gas out of the tank it has to be replaced by air or either the tank would implode or the fuel would stop leaving the tank. I presume that your gas cap is not vented, correct? It would have a one way valve on the inside of the cap if it was.

No, I have what I assume is the original unvented gas cap.

I did get out the degreaser and worked my way to the engine casting numbers last night. 2465330 - exactly what I was hoping to see. Now I have to figure out why anything I pour in the radiator runs straight out onto the floor from under the car. My hope is someone removed the drain plug to keep it from freezing up and never put it back in.

Thanks!

You know.....I've had a half dozen or more 64-65 Barracudas and never had to take the fuel filler pipe out. How the heck do you get it out? Twist it and work it towards the front of the car, up over the wheelhouse until the bottom end clears the hole in the side panel?

...or the opposite - make the bend point the filler neck toward the back. Don't the wheel wells flare out and give you more room in that direction???

Maybe so....it's only got two ways it can go. I'll find out when I gut it out to paint it.
I'm beginning to think since it's being replaced anyway, why not just cut the thing in two. Should come out pretty easy in pieces.

I'm told you have to disassemble the cargo space. Take the pass through door off. Remove the carpet. Remove the metal floor to get to the rubber boot. Sounds fun. Still have no idea how you would remove the metal floor when the fill pipe is running through it.

True, but if you figure out how to snake it out of there, you'll know how to put a new one back in. :)
