I just used a bic lighter and a white crayon, it worked great, easy cleanup too.

Great details. Thanks for the writeup and instructions.

I grabbed one of my kid's Crayolas, sat at my desk at work, warmed the crayon with a lighter until it was melting, then dabbed it on. Repeat as necessary. I used my fingernails to pick off the chunks then buffed the rest off with a cheap government issue paper towel.

I do all my engraved stuff the same as the old school factory process was done. believe it or not it is a thin paint that is just sloshed on and wiped off to leave the deeper parts painted. I worked part time when I was 14 in a small parts factory that did oldsmobile knobs and dashes. they did almost everything that way. reverse engraving on speedometer bezels was done with a tempra paint (yeah water based) my 66 is/was done that way too!
