Firm Feel fast ratio pitman arm install

-
I bought PST fast ratio pitman and idler arms that they said were for A body without headers.

I doubt it. But it might with log manifold and small diameter headpipe. I don't know what you headpipe looks like nor the clearance with your old std pitman.

The stock A-body 68-72 hi-po drivers manifold is very close to the stock pitman. If you look at a 100% original driver headpipe, the diameter is smaller the the rest of the pipe and it's got a clearance dent in it. I had a original in my 340 Barracuda. And there was not 1" of clearance for a longer pitman.

If you've seen the good TTI mandrel bent 2 1/2" drivers side head pipe for stick 340 hiPo manifolds, it's real close too.

I placed them side by side . The centerlink stud is .5" - 1" off....I'm not sure how much that changes the ratio.

might not be a big deal....

Is the new pitman length the same center to center as the idler? How is this with your old pitman?

IIRC, the fast ratio power steering arm is 1" or maybe a little more. That distance changes the ratio from 16:1 to 12.7:1.

You'll have an opposite effect.

I havent checked yet, but thanks for the heads up.

Couldent you use the stock hi po exh manifold and have a pipe custom made to bump out and clear it at that spot? Not sure what the clearance issues are since i am not looking at it. I dont have this mocked up yet. I suppose i could set my drivers side 68 340 manifold in place, and put the box up there, temp mount it, and install the PST pitman arm and centerlink. I am running a 4 speed, so theres a Zee bar stuffed in there. I opened up a little clearance in this area a little by using a denso mini starter.

BTW the K frame, power steering box and centerlink i am using is 73 up spool mount.

I am starting to think that maybe a 16-1 manual chuck might be a better way to go than a power box. Less **** to deal with, cleaner engine bay.

I put long arms on my 70 Charger back in the late 80s and remember having to modify the header pipes.
