Ernie's old 'hood, South Phoenix, had 5" of rain a day or tow ago according to one of her nieces...that is just about what they get in a full year....always amazed at the chuckleheads that drive out into the rather large puddles, people can't really be that stupid can they?

Wow, that's a lot of water.

Sucks how mother nature can give places, more than it needs, and other places, like here in California, none at all.

A little FYI from a life long Long Islander.
Put this under interesting facts....

Long Island is said to be made from the ice age. And it is a reasonable idea with a good clue to lend for this idea. The Island is a wedge shape. The south shore is beaches and marsh lands. The north shore is the high lands with most of the coast line being a bluff or cliff face. Some of the islands north face cliffs can exceed 100 feet in height. Sometimes people die from the drop. (The Island is approx. 117 long west to east)

Considering that storm dropped a good amount of rain in a short time, the run off (of course) collects at the south shore. The distance can be as much as 22 mes from shore to shore. That's a lot of water traveling north to south.

Some townships declared a state of emergency that morning.
Thankfully, I have not seen any deaths reported.

(Sighhhh) yea, they are in a way. Puddles are decieving (sp?) things. If you think it's small and are not really concerned, you drive into these pools at 60-70 mph without concern.
It is hard to tell what is deep and what is not.

I'm floored when I see people creep into them and just keep going. Not for nothin, I'll stop at bumper height and back out. Get out and take a survey.

Geeze! I've seen a couple of these photos on Facebook, but they don't really capture the devestation it caused.

the scary thing Rumblefish is that NYC once upon a time had another island...

it was called Hog island, was south of rockaway beach and in 1893 a hurricane washed it totally away. the island was 1 mile long
