Hi Y'all,
I came up with a plug n play solution to using the ford explorer 8.8 disc brake rear axle in an A body mopar. I wanted to post this seperately of the 8.8 swap sticky because i didnt want it to get lost in the shuffle. Its kind of a sticky situation because i found a supplier who can make these to order. They make custom length cables for lifted trucks, and 8.8 swaps into jeeps. As such making car cables for our stuff is not a mainstay for them, however they do have the crimp together ends for the mopars and explorers, and just needed to make the correct cables at the correct lengths with the correct ends on either side, and marry them up.
I have seen different methods of hooking up the brake cables. Either using the mopar drum brake cables and modifying them at the wheel end, or using the ford explorer cables and modifying them at the adjuster end in the chassis. Each way has its compromises. The cables i gad custom made are a plug n play solution. They have a 17,000 psi tensile strength. A bit overkill, but they wont fail you when needed.
They make these cables set up for 67-71 A body cars with ford explorer 8.8 disc brake axle.
They also make is the stock fwd circuit cable for 108" wheelbase A body cars from 67-71, and stock rear circuit cables w drum brakes for 67-71 A body cars.
See below the pix of the pair of 67-71 A body to ford explorer 8.8 disc brake E brake cables i have. I did a test fit on my project, these are great. The perfect plug n play solution. No compromises. Prices i payed for these were pretty reasonable as well. Left side short cable was $30. Right side long cable was $35. Not bad price wise. Whats your safety worth to you? I am not making anything off this, just trying to put good parts in the hands of people doing this swap to keep these cars safe, and provide a good plug n play solution for this part of the swap.
Please PM me if interested in the information.
Thanks
Matt
