I heard that a ford 8" would fit in a 72 dart swinger but what year does it have to be and what modifications would i have to do??

A mustang /maverick 8'' rear fits perfect on the spring perch locators and 'can' be a cheap alternative to an 8 3/4, that is if you have or are going to big bolt pattern.

I know, I've done it with a 72 8'' ford rear.

cool, ok because it would be alot more cheaper for me + its very easy to work on so ill go that route, right now i have the 7 1/4 with 3.23s in it but i know its not gonna last long (junkyard rear end), and i have a 318 in my dart and from what i heard the 7 1/4 cant handle v8s.? but anyways ill just go with that rear end then. oh yea i shouldnt have any problems with the driveshaft bolting up right?

You answered one question already when you said you currently have a 7 1/4" hangin' back there.I'm the last bee in the hive to discourage cross pollination (I'm the guy with the early hemi powered, straight axle AMC Javelin project running either a 9" ford or early Olds rear),but food for thought-you will go through whatever chores are involved in a nonstock swap and end up with the equivalent of a mopar 8 1/4" medium duty setup when your done.Is this what you are shooting for?

the drive line is another thing you woudl have to change if you were going 8 3/4 anyways, except you already have the 8'', otherwise I'd say go 8 3/4.

I haven't checked but the 2 drive lines might interchange [length wise]

actually you got me thinking bpwordman, because later on im planning on putting a 360 in and beefing it up some more so.... u know what, its just better to go with the 8 3/4 then because im tired of half assing things! it might be more expensive but in the long run it will just be alot more better, and oh yea i dont have the 8" ford yet 1wild&crazyguy, just one of my friends mentioned about adapting it to a dart with ease and i wanted to confirm it but thanks for that info.
