I just got around to pulling back seat, found a very deteriorated broadcast sheet and there's a tag on there too. Need to run numbers to see if it's vin, or ? Also found was a tag in the trunk, looks like a diff tag but if it is I don't know, the car is supposed to have a 3.55 ratio, I need to check the 8.25 for other tag or open it up, think it's a non-posi. Last thing I noticed was that the Swaim racing logo on the rear window was the owner of the car before it lived in Eastern WA where I bought it (was in Texas). That explains the fairly good body condition I guess.

that rear tag is a 3.21 which was the ratio from the factory in my 73 dart sport 340 from the factory in the 8-1/4....probably what is in your 8-1/4 rear also

Can you tell me if ratio gets stamped on the ring gear or, if there's no "new" tag on the pumpkin if you just count the ring/pinion gears? Also, I don't know if this matters as far as to what ratio is in there, but my car was originally slant 6 and I thought the previous owner had put this rear end in, possibly out of a truck (I don't even know if that would fit) Anyway it's a large bolt pattern.

Or divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear......That also works too

or, the easiest way...put a chalk mark on the rear tire and turn the drive shaft
count how many turns of the driveshaft it takes to turn the wheel one full turn and that is your gear ratio

I'll do it that way, thanks!

That way only works for sure grips......

If you jack both wheels off the ground turn the one wheel by hand....If the other one turns opposite the way you are turning you have a open rear.....If the other wheel turns the same direction you are turning it is a suregrip and can use the counting driveshaft turns method...

Yes, I do know that much, from my 4x4 experience. I looked at jacking up the rear end, I dunno, the front is on 4 jackstands. There is no motor, trans, or K frame so not too heavy. I have two floor jacks and bottle jacks, I guess if I was careful.
