Anyone use this? I'll be needing something to check out my used 5.9 Magnum. The other idea is just get a cheaper set of telescoping bore guages and use with my caliper but won't be so accurate I think.

Much more accurate than telescoping bore guages. It is best to set it up with a precision ring guage. They take a bit of feel but take your time, find the center of the bore (the largest reading) then you have to to be in the same place in the cylinder. That is to say the smallest reading in the center of the bore.

Thanks. It's something worth doing right.
Has anyone used this particular one?

You may laugh, but the best bore check gauge is a plain old coat hanger, If you are checking a used engine.
Cut then to length 3.91, 4.00, 4.04 and use common sense to check the bore taper.

Actually that makes perfect sense. I love simple.
Thanks.

Wow, that's a pretty fair price for a new dial bore gauge set. Good luck picking up a used Starrett for that.

Here's a slightly painful YouTube video: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjN0fGfUzl0"]Blueprint 101 - Using Micrometers, Calipers, & Bore Gauges - YouTube[/ame]

I'm sure there are others that are in focus

These are my favorites. really nice to use. range of + or minus .005 total, down to the .0001. They are nice because the extra spring loaded plungers help center the gauge in the bore. I used to set these up when I worked in Quality...

1st one went for $76.00.
2nd one still at a low price - watching.
The rings are priced too high - over $30.00 each.
