I have owned quite a few 67-73 A-body Darts and seem to find a pretty common issue with the upper control arm mount area of the frame rails.. It's pretty obvious that they hold mud and moisture and other nasty road gunk!

I am going to be replacing one of my rails eventually on the driver side.. that one is rotten badly and patched as well. I checked out the passenger side and it does have a rot hole between the suspension pick up points... Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on making a steel cap or plate to cover this area and keep it from holding so much junk in there.. probably would add some strength to the rail as well.

Here is a picture of the area's I'm talking about.

Just hose it out periodically. A LOT less work. lol

Had to do some repair patches on mine as well. Well known problem.

Hmm guess i got lucky on mine, clean as a whistle. Of course it was a factory undercoat car. Not sure if that helped

same issue

The really bad one :(

but heres my solution

Finally got my new upper control arm mounts and man are these thing stout. Just need to cut the old out and weld these in.

Someone does make a replacement panel for that area.
I'm with Rusty, an occasional hose out would be easier.
Plus I"m sure most of us will never drive these cars in the mudd or snow again.
