Is foam really needed in a fuel cell--I get gas just about every time we take the car out so it really never gets below 1/2 a tank. Thanks Steve

One of my trucks had a cell in it with no foam, never had a problem.

IMO, as long as there's a sump, it's not really needed for a drag car. Seems more for driving in circles. I guess if you have strong launches and bring the tires up high enough, the fuel might slosh to the front when the wheels come down, but I still don't think it would leave the pick-up dry. But then again, I'm kind of a newbie at racing, so I may be wrong.

Yep has a good sizes sump and is on the rear of the cell, the reason i ask is I have had some of the foam break down and have found it in my pre-filter,I probably should have removed it sooner but I'm just getting the car out for the summer after a engine re-build--Steve

The foam has some benefits if you run a return line style system.

I found that if you kept the tank full, the foam being wet, had less chance to dry out.
