fwiw: for worn out gasket that left a gap for fumes/fuel sloshing out:

Used Hillman rubber washer from Lowe's 1/2" X 2" X 1/8".
Cut out inside diameter so washer was about 1/4" wide.
Install carefully behind the existing gasket in the cap, prying up the old one and pushing in the new rubber washer behind it all around.
Made a good seal.

I cut my gasket from pvc shower pan liner. Pvc is not fuel proof but fuel resistant. It has been on for
Ten months and still looks good.

sounds good - I'm hoping the the original gasket protects the the rubber one I put behind it. The way it springs open tells me it should be decent seal..
