How can you tell if your fuel pump is going bad?

The symptoms I have experienced are intermittent and a little odd. The other day while cruising the car sort of lost and gained acceleration. Like I was letting my foot off the gas slightly but I wasn't. Then first thing in the morning when I take her out she ALWAYS dies first time then starts and runs fine. I did rebuild my carb about a year ago.

No choke and I changed the fuel filter at the same time I changed the tank. Does it sound like a fuel delivery issue or am I crazy?

My slant has a flat lobe on the cam. It barely moves the pump. I'm guessing no zinc in the oil can wipe out that lobe also. Remove the pump and have someone turn it over while you look at the lobe. An electric pump would fix mine but I want it stock so im just waiting to install a new cam.

Morning=choke. Later, could be vapor lock. Kinda need a temp pressure gauge on the cowl to look at, when it burbles.
