Anyone rebuilding their own fuel pumps ? Small block - Carter M 6270 or Edelbrock 1720. Cost of replacing these is a little silly.

You can buy rebuild kits from then and now automotive. I've bought them. They feel high priced also. Would be nice to get from somewhere with realistic pricing.

Don't forget to check Chrysler Marine supply sources. Marine engines used the same pump.
You can also get kits from Ford/Mustang suppliers. The Boss 302 & 429, and 428 S/CJ used the Ford version of those Carter pumps.*
For instance:
Carter High Performance X Fuel Pump Rebuild Kit
* The Ford (and many other) rebuild kits come with 3 valves- you will only need 2.

Carter's website also lists the pump as still available, I would try calling them directly (CALL) about rebuild kits. Their tech line is actually helpful!

It's my understanding that the difference between big & small block pumps ( rebuildable models) is the arm only , they are easily changed. Can anyone shed some light on this ? Thanks. -Mike

I tried to contact them twice as I have 2 Carter macanical pumps. Looks like new pumps really cost, so wanted kits while I could get them. No response from Then and Now.
Anyone use them recently?

FYI , spoke to his phone lady Thursday 7/31 , sent an email one day , got a response the next , sending him 3 pumps to rebuild.

FYI Update - positive experience with these folks @ Then & Now . Sent 2 pumps for rebuild & had them back within 1 week ! 2 pumps rebuilt for slightly more than the cost of a new edelbrock 1720 pump.

The arm is the only difference , you'll only need to drill a tiny hole opposite the removable aluminum plug to be able to drive out the pin holding the arm.
