Not real, of course. Amphetamine was not super-available then. The Germans distributed a lot of it to their troops, which made it much more popular and well-known.
Amphetamines became very popular in the fifties and sixties, and were used commonly as weight loss drugs. Many people, including famous people like Andy Warhol, took them every day for years. Obetrol ("Obesity conTrol") was one. When taking amphetamines to keep the weight off fell out of fashion in the '70s, they just renamed it to Aderall, and huge numbers of people still take it.
