Back around 1975, I got a county tax bill for my 1965 Falcon that I had not paid. The tax owed was $0.48 with a 10% late fee of $0.05. That probably wasn't worth the trouble.
When I got out of the Navy in’75 to go to college, I was happy to file my income tax and wait for my refund - party time (I thought).
No parties later, in late February ‘76, I got a letter from the IRS, telling me
“…we are holding your refund check because we do not have a valid mailing address for you.” WTF, they sent me a letter but did not have my mailing address?
After a scathing phone call, my check arrived 2 weeks later. My only regret is that I lost their letter.
