I have these G60-15 tires but they don't seem to grip well. So I am looking to replace them with the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials. My question is which size tire is closest to the G60-15's I have now. The 255/60-15 or 235/60-15. The G60-15s I have now clear the leafs by about 1/4 inch because the backspace on my steelies is 4-1/2. Ideally it would be best if MT made 245/60-15 but they don't. I think I can get by with a 10" section width.
Any experience or suggestions would really help since these tires aren't cheap. Here is picture of the car with the tires mounted.

255= 10" wide tire at 60% your side wall is 6"
245= 9.65" wide tire at 60% your side wall is 5.79"
235= 9.25" wide tire at 60% your side wall is 5.55"

A G 60 15 is a 235/60/15 or approx. a 26 inch tire. Do understand that this dimention varies slightly from manufacture to manufacture of tire.

A 245 is 10 mm wider and 60% of the 10 mm = 6 mm taller. Ethier tire could be used without speedometer correction.

There are a couple of ways of looking at the situation of replacing the G60 tires.
  1. Since tread width varies from manufacturer, look at the cross-section width. This typically is the widest part of the tire. It is also the part of the tire used to calculate side wall height appropriate to the aspect ratio. A "60" series sidewall is 60% of the height of the cross-section width.
  2. Stay with the same aspect ratio and go for the same load bearing limits. Typically, bias ply tires have higher load limits than radial ply tires at the same number of plys, materials, and cross-section. To re-capture lost load limits, it is normally necessary to go up two sizes on the radial tires.

255/60-15 M/T ET Street Radials. Sorry for the tilted camera angle. The car does sit level. But sometimes my brain doesn't. Launching at 2500RPM is fun now.
