I have an inoperative oil pressure gauge on my 71 Demon. Since I rebuild 1st Generation Charger gauges as a side business (www.thegaugedoc.com), I figured I'd take the gauge apart and see what it looked like. As expected, the nichrome wire that is wrapped around the bimetal strip had the insulation burned off of it. This is most likely due to the gauge getting 12V (should have 5V) due to a bad voltage limiter. Once the insulation is gone, the gauge is shorted and once voltage is applied, it will read full scale high regardless of the sending unit input. I'll post an after picture once I rebuild the gauge and calibrate it.
