Gear whine on decel

When a rear whines on decel, Is it generally from them being set up too close to the pinion gear? It is an 8-1/4 with a 3.55 suregrip.

Pinion gear depth incorrect. I cannot remember it whine on decel indicates too much or too little, but that's what it is.

Set up is wrong and pin may be in to far

If it has not just rebuilt or overhauled it sounds like the pinion bearings are worn or loose.

I just swapped out 2.71 for the 3.55. I have not set up an 8-1/4 before, but plenty of 8-3/4 with never a problem. This coast side whine had gotten me confused.
