Hey guys, I'm trying to get the axles out of my 8 3/4 rear end. I got the 4 or 5 main bolts holding the axle to the housing off, but the axle wont come out. have I missed a bolt or a screw or something? Or is the axle just stuck because its been in the housing for over 30 years? whatever help I can get is appreciated.

Are you using a pull hammer (like pullers)??

Yup you need an axle puller, it's just a big slide hammer. If they have never been out before it takes a bit of work to get them out.

Sometimes you can use the brake drum to get the axles out.
Make sure the 5 bearing retaining nuts are off.
Mount the drum backwards, and install the lugnuts so the stud is even with the nut.
Pull the drum, hard and quick, sliding the drum on the studs smacking them into the nuts.
Instant slide hammer.

This is exactly what I use, it works good.

I'm surprised they're tight. The splines normally loosen up the older they get.

It's usually the bearing race that gets stuck in the housing.
