Going to have my 74 Duster painted in a few weeks, I decided to go with Snake Skin Green, with a black hood and spoiler.
Here’s my dillema, I love the flat black look however not real sure about the upkeep of it.
I thought of maybe going with a satin black or even changing it up completely by going to a gloss Ford Tuxedo Black metalic, against the snake skin green metalic I’m thinking it might look really good.
Obviously I’m not a purist this is more of a resto mod car.
If I decide to go with the metalic then I will probably have to have the the stripes custom painted onto the car to match the hood and spoiler.
Any ideas or suggestions

There are a couple of commercially available low-gloss black paint systems, often sold as "hot rod black" and made by SEM and other companies. They are very durable, and the required care is not too difficult. The main thing is to avoid products that contain wax. There are a number of quick detailer products that are designed for matte/satin paints like these examples:

...and so on

Unfortunately not yet I’m looking at maybe March, I ran into a few snags and decided to do few mods on the car before paint.
Also ran into some electrical opportunities that need and still need to be resolved.
Running lights and backup lights quit working have to figure that out so still plodding along.
Custom bucket seat frames should be here next week for my Mercedes seats, I can start looking at getting those in then building a custom center consol.
Going to run front and rear back cameras with a 9 in HD monitor, lighted cup holders and various switches to operat accessories in the car, hope to have it all ready to go by March.

Linked is my suggestion. I used this on my FV, and against a grid of brightly colored cars, it really stood out. In low light it looks plain satin black, but in bright light or direct sunlight it has a graphite glow.

been tough as nails so far. Gets beaten up with pebbles and tire boogers pretty good on the track. I just remove all the rubber with WD-40, wash the whole car with S100, then wipe it down with Plexus before tossing a cover over it until the next race weekend. It has chipped twice, once from a hit from a thrown lead wheel weight that also cracked the fiberglass, the other time, not sure what hit, but it was loud/big enough to feel and hear the impact over 4 cars in a tight group. I would 100% use it again.

There is also the plastidip route. Paint the hood to match the car, then plastidip the hood flat black, or even a metallic black like my car. if you grow tired of it, just peel it off..I have seen this stuff used in person, it looks great

Sounds like you’re doing some similar mods to stuff I’d like to do. Do you by any chance have a build thread?

Because of glare, gloss black on the hood is a no no.
If you are going black on the hood, you will be better off with a matte black.

I get what you’re saying, but at the same time, that doesn’t really matter because there are a lot of cars that are completely black, including the hood. I personally would go with satin because I think it looks better than gloss for a blackout hood
