This has probably been asked a million times but with all new options for cams, I will ask again. So I will be putting my matching 340 back in my GTS. It is 40 over and all stock. 202 X heads etc. I want to put a new more potent cam in it with the stock rocker set up. I will be adding a 750 carb and a RPM Air Gap intake, Electronic ignition and Doug's Headers. I don't need anything too radicle. It is a 4 speed with 3:23's.

I would go with the lunati voodoo 474/495 lift 220/[email protected] cam had this in my near stock 383 roadrunner 4-speed and it was a great cam that had a ton of mid range and pulled real hard from 1.400 all the way to 5,500.

comp xe268h, 20-223-3, 1600-5800, 268*/280*, at .050" 224*/230*, .477"/.480" uses a single spring. the 1968 340 4 speed cars came from mopar with a slightly hotter cam than all other 340s-276*/284*

The original 340 cam has an operating range of idle to 5800 RPM. How much more "potent" do you want?

I second the Comp XE268H. That is what I have in my 69 340 4 spd Cuda. It has Headers, Edelbrock Air Gap, 750 CMF Edelbrock carb. The combo is good for about 375 HP. It ha a wonderful Idle, and it will scald the tires in a burn out.

The stock 340 cam was mild like 214 @ .050, with the headers and air gap a cam in the 220 to 226 @.050 will wake it up! I would lean closer to the 220 side to be honest in your setup.

This is pretty much my combo. Thanks. The lunati voodoo 474/495 seems bit more cam am I wrong?

I don't understand why people wave the 268 banner so much. It's really fairly large for a stock 340. I also agree with the 220 @ .050 comment. JMO.

I think I am going with the lunati voodoo 474/495. Seems like a good fit. But I still want to hear more ideas especially with the Hughes cams. Can I use stock push rods and rockers etc?

Another plug for the Lunati 10200702. I've got it in my nearly stock 360 (only mods are 2.02 J heads, headers, intake manifold and carb) and it works great. A fair bit more power than stock across the RPM range.

The comp is 10 bucks cheaper but the Lunati is 100 bucks better.

It's a 4 gear, anything like the 262 or 268 comp or lunati will work fine. I'm putting a XE262 in a 78 360 for my Aspen with an auto/AC/3.21 gears.

A stock 340 cam is about 208-210 at .050.

As far as my 383 the voodoo worked fine with stock rockers and pushrods. One thing to check into, the voodoo was a three bolt cam for my 383 so you had to use a 3 bolt timing chain But I don't think any thing will be different on the SB.

Stock rockers should work. Measure for pushrods and see if stockers will work.
