one or more of the main or rod bearings is undersized ... check the bearing shells when you take it apart

what was the purpose of doing that from the factory?

In the casting process, sometimes the cores don't line up perfectly. Instead of melting down an otherwise good block, they will install undersized or oversized bearings, pistons, etc. They would mark the block so the assembler could install the proper sized part later on.
Sorta like enlarging a molding hole in a door so the molding lines up with the one on the 1/4 panel.
I found more than a couple when I worked at a C/P dealer in Cincinnati. Perfect alignment but a little rusty water stain seeping out of the molding.....they never painted the bare metal after they oblonged the holes.
Typical Mopar quality back then.
