With alot of work over the last two days and emergency questions on here I have finally started my first 340!!

I let it run for 20 minutes last night, and changed the oil right now and fired her up again, it runs good with alot of oil pressure, but when I shut it off, I have a water leak which appears to be coming from the header bolt on the drivers side closest to the firewall...Now I know I can tighten up the bolt, but is this a normal place to have a leak??

Thanks

Shane

Congrats on getting it running !

The end exhaust bolts on small blocks get into the water jacket in the head itself. I'd try tightening first. If that doesn't fix it then you may need to pull the bolt (drain the coolant first) and apply some thread sealant and reinstall.

Thanks! I took a video like I have seen on here, but I forgot the cord at work to get it on the computer, I will do that in the next few days..

should i get high heat thread sealant or any kind will do?

Congrats Shane!

Try what 66 said.

If you do end up draining the coolant again, I would put studs in on all four corners.

Think I used the black RTV.

Its only water in there now...in case of a situation like this... I am thinking I will pop four studs in the corners and use the RTV sealer on the studs as well?

I am still have the hood off...I am praying for some good weather in the morning to try her out on the back roads...Nicefish, I know you are from the area...that was some rain today eh?

Hey Shane

This weekend is no good. Have a Margarita party this afternoon and a birthday party tonight. So it may as well rain. Sorry!.

Was in Chicago last week. What a great city. Lots to see and do and lots of history.

I filled it up the Fish with Sunoco 94 last week...cost me $75 for a 3/4 tank. Need to drive it like an old lady to conserve cost.

The studs, give them a good goop before you install them.

When your in the area, give me a call.

Jim
