I have been dealing with a leak in my tranny for awhile now and have been posting on here for awhile about it. I finally decided to have it rebuilt and get it over with. Car ran great and shifted perfectly. I had no idea there was a problem in it. The man told me something about a reverse band in it that was bad and that there was a big crack in the valve body. I know nothing about a 727 tranny but he told me he guaranteed it not to leak. He put a new OEM pan on it also. I get to put this back in tomorrow.we will see if it stopped the leak.

Hmm, that is weird. Sounds like someone is pulling your chain. A Valve Body leak would be internal and a Rear band has nothing to do with a leak either. Are you saying you had an External fluid leak on that transmission like dripping on the ground?

How much did you pay to have it rebuilt? I am curious as to how much people charge.

Thanks.

No Mad Dart, was not saying the leak was from the valve body. Just saying that I had a leak and was glad that I had it rebuilt because I didn't know the internal problems. It was leaking on the ground and I thought it was the front pump bushing. I tried all the other obvious things and it did not help. glad I just went and had it all replaced. Total cost as $691.00. That didn't include the convertor because this one was new.

Glad you got it fixed and are happy.

Almost always if a Valve Body is cracked " You said he told you there was a BIG crack " in any way your shifting will be affected and you will know there is an obvious problem, if it even shifts at all. You stated that the transmission worked fine except for the leak is why I said someone is pulling your chain. I was just bringing your attention to the salesman's BS Tactics to up sell you and make more $$ cause from what you stated, it did definitely happen in this case. As far as the reverse band, probably an adjustment was out. He has to tell you something for you to hand over your hard earned $$.

You should have asked for the parts to verify what he was telling you. Transmission guys are some of the most dishonest shops in the industry and they get away with it because of our lack of knowledge on the subject. I could list a few well known racer transmission shops that RIP guys off to the tune of 6K and even more on a daily basis for doing no more than 2K worth of parts and labor work to their transmissions.

Very true.....when I was looking to get a trans rebuild in AZ I went to a local guy and was quoted $2700. Stumbled across the guy I now know.....ended up being a $14 solenoid.....For what it is worth last time I asked him on a cash $ carry on a older hydraulic unit he was in the $375 range. $700 is for a r & r on a 4x4 truck.......

Sorry to hear you got hosed, might think about DIY next time, you can do these blindfolded.

Glad to see it sorted out though. :D

Kimmer, it is funny you said something about the cable. I put a new ratchet B&M shifter on here when we put this thing together and something is not right with it. It seems I have to compromise between park and 1st gear. to get it into park where it will stay, I don't have 1st gear on the shifter. you think they sent me the wrong cable or something. do you know what aftermarket shifter I can buy to fix this.

we put this tranny in last night and I ran it up on the jack stands for awhile and got it hot. shut it off and this morning I went out to see if there was the usual puddle of fluid under the car and.....................woohoo. it is dry. that was the best $691.00 I spent on that car. the hours I spent last year under this thing trying to find the leak was tough not to mention pulling it out a time or two. I also noticed I didn't feel the slight vibration I used to feel while it was running up on the stands. I am going to detail the underside of this thing before I set it down and get it ready for the shows this summer and then take it for a spin later this week and I guess my boys Dart Sport will go back in the garage and finish up some of the body work on it. Thanks for the info.

good news-- if your problem is fixed then $691 does not sound unreasonable. Lawrence

Very true! Sometimes any amount of $$ paid for a problem to go away is worth it.
I got taken for over $2600.00 on a set of heads about 4 years ago. What suxx about my situation is my problem did not get fixed, those heads were junk and I had to start over from scratch.:banghead:

..............Looks like u have the right arm for cable shift, same as 904, but u may need the 727 arm that is straight, no dog leg in it......kim.........sometimes if u drill a hole slightly inboard of the 1s that's there u can fix ur park/low gear problem, worth a shot I think...........also there is about 4 or 5 different length arms like the 1 u have on ur trans.......

X2. I had that problem with my Dart. I drilled a hole 3/4" inboard of the original and problem solved.
