I inherited from my father in law, an old Mac or Matco toolbox, basic bottom and top setup. When he spent money on tools, he bought good stuff, so I am excited to inventory and figure out exactly what I have.

The box and tools are greasy, old, and dirty.

I am going over this weekend, to unload all the tools (too heavy to move loaded) + need to replace a caster on the bottom.

1. Plans are to cover it with purple cleaner, scrub it inside and out, and pressure wash it clean. What would everyone recommend for lubrication on the drawer slides? I am going to BLAST it clean, and I want to relube the slides to bring it back to smoother operation.

2. What would be the best way to clean all the old tools? I also want to drench and degrease them all, so they are clean, visible and usable.

Opinions?

i use p b blast on my slides works pretty good. tools i have put them in some degreaser from harbor freight the ind. kind not the standard it works great thats what i use on my dump truck aswell cleans really good mike

X2 Rameth. You can also use dry graphite spray (if you can find it). I just clean hand tools in solvent.

Anti seize compound works well. It must be put in exactly the right place or it can get everywhere. I prefer to use something with consistency that will hang around a while.

White lithium on the slides, and solvent on the tools.

to clean the grease from my tools,I usually just spray brake cleaner on them, and wipe them down with a rag, just be careful on plastic handles ,the brake cleaner eats into them.tool box drawer slides,I just use regular grease out of a grease gun.Seems to work,or white grease.
