Is there a real meaning behind this holiday I haven't looked it up on the internet? As far as I know it's an excuse to get drunk.. I don't drink so happy Thursday...

St. Patrick’s day was started out as a feast day to celebrate St. Patrick bringing Christianity to Ireland.
It unfortunately became an excuse to get drunk day.
Being a third + Irish we celebrate it with Food. I made this Irish soda bread for our dinner today.
