Having issues with my car starting right up every time

-
Thanks for this thread. I am having the exact same issue and am getting tired of all these Californians giving me their smug "you should drive a Hybrid" looks while trying to crank it up in public.

I get that too some times. I have winter and summer settings for my car and that helps out a lot. Just need to fine tune her every now and then.

I wonder if the OP ever got his problem solved and what the fix was. This thread would be way more helpful if he had updated it.

my barracuda does the same thing, 360 w/ edelbrock carb... I found that when the engine is cold, pump the throttle a couple times and it starts right up. When it is hot, push the gas 1/4-1/2 of the way down and it fires no problem, if I don't hit the gas, it takes forever. I have a 1" spacer I was going to put on it but, my air cleaner will hit the hood so, I live with it like it is for now. I also adjust the choke a little different for winter than I do for summer.

I just went out to the garage and tried the 1/4 pedal and it fired up after a few turns. With my old van and charger I had always did the pump and pray method to start them so kind of automatically do that. I'll try it next time I drive too and repost to see if it was the fix.

One thing I can tell you is that every Mopar I have ever owned has had a different starting procedure than the others. For instance, my 66 ...If I pump it a couple times and crank it over it will fire up and run for a couple seconds then stall. Next I will pump it a couple more times then start it again and immedietly put it into gear and drive it out of the garage. It will stall about half way out and roll the rest of the way. Next, I pump it a couple more times and it will start right up and idle like none of that just took place. If I don't do this exact procedure every time, I'll be pumping and starting another 15 times, and it'll even stall down at the corner about a mile away.

Bottom line is this... every Mopar has it's own personality and you need to find the starting procedure that works for your car, then get used to doing it every time. If it's different from cold to hot, so be it!!! Hey, I don't make the rules, but I sure try to follow them!!!LOL!!! Good luck with that new motor, Geof

Yes I'm still having the same issue. The car runs great, idles never stalls. The choke is working great never to high and easy to kick down when cold.
I do live in California and even this winter when hot it just takes a while to start after it has sat for an hour after driving it?
I just don't get it checked the timing .still does it . fires right up cold first bump, not even a turn. but go drive the car and park it for a while then you have to crank and crank like it isn't getting gas. I tried pumping it first just seems to flood it?
The old slant six used to fire right up hot or cold, now the 318 is being difficult sure love the power when it's started. Any other tips ? Thanks Ted

To add follow up, I have been trying the pedal at 1/4ish position when cranking and starts pretty quickly for the last few days. I think this might help.
