I've got my heads back from the machine shop and want to install them tonight. The book I have and some of the web pages are contradictory. I'm using the off the shelf Fel-Pro gaskets Pn. 8553PT blue fiber ones with steel O rings. Do I or do I not put them on dry?

Thanks again

Dave

all head gaskets go on dry only.........make sure bolt holes are cleaned out good.....and obviously old gasket material removed w/ a razorblade

Thats what I thought but one site said to use high temp silver paint? Never heard of that before.

they usualy paint steel factory style gaskets

fel pros if they are blue are self sealing,,make sure both surfaces head and block are clean,,use a small amount of brake clean or a mineral sprits type solvent, one that doesne leave a resadue,,, clean out the head bolt threads, and read your servie manual on torqueing down your heads,,you wil want to lube the bolt threads for an accurate torque reading,, and torque in 3 steps,,,

Aren't the 8553-PT the thick gaskets. I'm pretty sure they're .055 thick compressed versus .039 for the standard. Anyone?
