Hi, some insight please, the headlight switch shown below with the male tab on the end indicated by the red arrow, is this for a ground wire to be inserted. I checked the headlight switch in my 68 Barracuda today and could not feel this thing present when putting my hand up behind the dash. I have a problem with the dash lights being way too dim at the moment and thought this may be the first place to start.

Yep, it's for a ground connection not used on all applications. Remember, the same headlight switch is used on a whole whackload of Mopars. My '92 Dodge Spirit uses the same switch as my '73 Dodge Dart. The switch mounts to a plastic panel in the Spirit, so there's a ground wire for that tab you indicate. The switch mounts to the metal dash in the Dart, so no ground wire.

If your dash lights are too dim, replace all the old bulbs with new W5W bulbs (Sylvania #2825). If still too dim, add a ground wire to the dash panel.

Thanks Dan, will definitely try your suggestions.
