heads ID

is there a way to determine what heads i have on a 70 383 without taking them off......i can get the valve cover off but i dont really want to take the head off since its a good running engine but i want to know if they are 906 or what i have to work with here?

Pull the valve cover off and the head part number is visible. Should be 906's but after 43 years, who knows.

most heads have a casting number that you can see by taking off the valve
covers , they are some times hard to see without a flash light and sometimes they are tucked under the rocker arms shaft. I have taken a piece of paper before
and stuck it on the number and then rubbed it just to transfer the number to
something I could read in the house. Cheers.
