I have a question have a 1974 Dodge dart sport with AC. I have this cable on the back of the control that controls temp. But can not find where on the heater box that it attaches to. It was not attached to anything when I removed the dash.

Probably goes through the firewall to the "In the Heater Hose" heat valve.
Swings the valve lever 90° to turn hot water flow on or off, or 1/2 way.

What is the cable attached to on the switch side? Isn't there only "temp" and "vents"?

So its either controls the water valve or the door flappers for face/defrost/floor

You say that you have A/C, is the ac box still in? The heater and ac box are 2 separate boxes. Not sure that it goes to the heater box, certainly not the water temp out on the passenger inner fender well. It should be obvious where the cable goes, it attaches to a metal rod and the casing is held in place by a metal clip with a screw. Look for it.

Yes the AC box is still in. I found the location on the top and the very back by the firewall. Was very hard to see. Thanks.

If the round retainer that holds the cable wire end to the rod is missing g, should be able to find one at a hardware store. The cable clip holder is available from Mega Parts or others.
Good luck!
