Heating Issues on 360

Hey Guys - having some issues with heating on my 65 barracuda and was hoping you could help! I am not very technical (read: noob), so any advice would help.

I had a new custom 4-row aluminum radiator put in as well as a 165 t-stat, which I thought would resolve my overheating issues. Now it runs great at speed, but when sitting in traffic it can't stay cool. My mechanic recommended a fan shroud and perhaps an electric inline, but couldn't find the parts. Is that the right solution? If so, where do I get the parts and can I bolt this stuff on myself?

Not sure where to buy one- some have made them out of baking pans if not available for your app- but a shroud will make a big difference for little $. Make sure your fan is
~ 1/2 way into the shroud.
 
On my 360 I have a 3 row radiator, 160 stat, stock fan shroud (repo junk)
and a direct fan.

Cruising around town with it 90 outside...stays at 160-175.

Never overheats.
 
Okay so it looks like I just need to build one from scratch. Considering I can't rip out the radiator I am going to need to build one in two pieces and affix it around the fan, which is belt driven.

I figure it is a pretty simple build - just some sheet metal, cutting, and bending. However, I don't have much in the way of tools. Do you guys think posting an ad on craigslist for help on fabrication would be the way to go?

That looks like the same fan I'm using. A shroud would be a big plus.
 
I was looking at the pic of your radiator. It looks like whoever made it included brackets on the sides for the stock shroud. If you could find one it would probably bolt on, but the early A shrouds are hard to find & usually expensive. Your best bet will probably be to make one like you plan to or maybe buying one of the ones like the one in the eBay link.
 
Also, there is a pretty good article regarding cooling systems, in the December 2010 issue of Mopar Action. Lots of good info/ideas in the article.

That said, there are lots of ready-made shrouds out there that may work with a little modification: Remember the shroud doesn't know if it is mounted vertical or horizontal. P.71 of the Sachse Rod Shop catalog gives actual shroud dimensions:

LOL. I like it. That actually looks good.
 
I also did some calling around to various shops in LA. Sounds a like custom fab is out of the question from their perspective.

The rec. I got was to put on a massive elec fan/shroud combo that is used to cool police interceptors (300 for fan alone), and to run it on a switch/relay. All in, $1000.

I'd hate to think that the solution would cost that much. Would that solve this problem? Do I have to worry about my elec system?
