Some of you may already know from my "Welcome Wagon" thread, but I just purchased a 1974 Dart Swinger project car. I have been trying to deode my fender tag and have most of the codes figured. I was wondering if you guys (and gals) could help me out with the rest. Here is what I have so far:

R11 - AM Radio
V5X - Black Body Side Moldings
L1 - ?
317 - ?
L31 - Fender Mount Turn Signal
M21 - Roof Drip Rail Moldings
M25 - Wide Sill Molding
M26 - Wheel Lip Molding
M38 - Deck Lid Finish Panel Moldings
N76 - Coolant Recovery System
VIL - Full Vinyl Top - Champagne
U - Built to USA Specs
C15 - Sound Insulation Package
G11 - Tinted Glass
C52 - Bench Seat
H51 - Single Air Conditioner With Heat
FE5 - Paint Code: Rally Red
E2L3 - ?
000 - Full Door Panel
425 - Build Date: 4-25-74
509285 - Order # 509285
E24 - 225 1 Barrel /6
D34 - ?
LH23 - L=Dart H=High Price Class 23=2 Door Hard Top
C4B - C=225 /6 4=1974 B=Hamtramk, Mi USA

I found all of these by searching the web, so some of them my be incorrect. If so, please let me know.

D34= Standard duty trans, E2L3...E=Economy class, 2= Vinyl Bench, L3= Parchment, 317= Not sure, but could be either the axle code or engine assembly code build date, not sure about the L1, although "L"= lights. Hope this helps, Geof

Data tags are read from the bottom up..ie bottom line 1st followed by 2nd line from the bottom, etc.

Thanks for the help, here are a few pics. The glare might make a few of the codes hard to read and my car is about 120 miles from me right now so I can't get any better info yet. I was hoping that one of the codes would tell me what ratio gears are in the rear end.

Further decoding after seeing tag.

L1--Build On Line 2 Hamtramck had 2 assembly lines.

317 is still unknown.

You stated there was a code C52.
Actually it is G52 --Left chrome remote control mirror.

The option codes on the 3rd line up to the top are listed in alphabetical order.

The build sheet (if you can find it) will have the rear end codes on it.

Standard ratio for a /6 auto is 2.76 and 3.23 is optional.

Hope that helps !!

Thanks! I thought that listing the bench seat in two seperate codes was a little off and it does have the chrome power mirror.

L1 - Assembly line 1 build.

L2 was used for line 2.

425 is the scheduled production date, it could be the build date, but not always. Check you driver's side door sticker for the MDH (Month, Day, Hour) code.

Taped to the back side / top of the glove box insert.
Under the front seats in the springs
Under the rear seat bottom
In the rear seat back.
Under the package tray (speaker shelf)
Under the carpet

My glove box insert is gone as well as the original carpet so let's hope I can find it in one of the other locations. If my historic liscense plates get here by the end of the week I'll be bringing the car home over the weekend.
