Hello I have a 70 dart with a built up 360 in it, and have ran into a wierd ignition problem. I cant get it to throw any spark with the dist in the car and cranking it with the starter. but if i remove the dist and simply turn it it will spark correctly. when i turn it by hand it seems like i have to turn it faster than the msd reccomended 250rpms to get it to spark. here is my setup.
MSD streetfire ignition box
mopar vacum advance electronic dist.
msd blaster 3 coil

it was running fine then started to be hard to start, then it got to where it wont start at all. here are some things i have already tried with no change
new coil
new dist
new battery
new pos and neg battery cables
checked all wiring and it is all correct
new cap and rotor
voltage at msd large red 11.2 while cranking
voltage at msd small red 12+
magnetic pickup gapped at .12

any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Dillon

I would suspect pickup / reluctor problems. You have another distributor you can substitute?

Op said he replaced the dizzy, I doubt he would have 2 bad dizzy's, seems like it is shorting out some how. hopefully someone else will chime in. In one of the pics it looks like you have a oil type coil AND one attached to the fender?? one is hooked up and one is not??

dont know if this helps, but the mopar air gap is .008 for the reluctor, the bigger the gap the less powerful spark....use a non magnetic welders feeler gauge......

currently the coil on the fender is hooked up. the msd blaster ziptied to the firewall was trying to find the problem.

Thanks rick maybe my gap is too large. I will reset the gap to .008 and try again.
