Ok I have a 68 barracuda. I'm installing a 71 340. It's got the timing cover and aluminum water pump installed from previous owner. I'm wanting to install all my pulleys etc. the water pump pulley sticks way out further than the crank pulley. So I got the cast iron water pump and it has extra bolt holes on the outer portion on both sides. Does the 67,68 use a different timing cover????

Ok,thanks for the link!
In the photo of the blue 69 340 it has the short pump(iron) if you look at the sides it sticks out and has extra bolt holes on each side is that correct or do 67/68 340's have a different timing cover with those extra in them?

I'm not positive since everything I've worked on in the last 20 yrs. have been 70 and up stuff but I think the extra holes in the pre-70 iron water pump are just for accessories. Early timing covers are different but nothing to do with accessories. Early engines had the timing marks on the pass side so the harmonic balancer has to be matched not only to the balance of the engine (internally or externally balanced accordingly) but also has to jive with the timing cover or the timing marks will be waaaay off.

Ok makes sense and some great info and advise. I've got all I need figured out Thanks to everyone here on A bodies!!!! Thank you so much! :)
