Just curuous - from a purely tenticle (sic: technical) point of view ... what's the general consensus about how well built/good a car the new Mustang GT is.

I really like the car - drove it a couple times. Just wondering how good mechanically it is.

I know in the past, it was not past a number of Mopar guys to buy 5.0 Stangs as daily drivers.

i like them...it's just everyone has them and they all look the same... i mean..at least with like the daytona chargers..nothing looks like them..toatally one offs..ya know? please just don't get the ones that have 427 down the side when they're not even close to 7.0L... It's like putting srt-8 badges on a v6 charger IMHO... If you are gonna get it..do something to make it pop

Naw ... if I do get one I'd leave it bone stock and use it as a daily is all.

ohhh....if iwas gonna get a vehicle i'd leave stock...it's be an srt4..bc of the great gas milage, plus the speed..or a corolla s, just bc of the mpgs

I like to drive around in a 2-door, and Ford did a fantastic job with the new Mustang styling, engine and suspension - at least on the surface.

The SRT4 isn't avail anymore anyway and personally I can't stand Corollas. I have never driven a Toyota I did not dislike.

I'm a Mopar guy through and through. But I do like the old
Mustangs, 67-69. When Ford came out with the new Mustang, all
I thought was WOW. They really hit the ball right out of the park
with that one. I even tried to talk the wife into one. She said
NO. I have not heard any bad stuff on them. I still wouldn't
mind a new GT stang. Go ahead, they are a cool car.
Hope the new Challenger turns out as well.

I agree. I'll probably never own a Ford, but IMHO Ford did a good job with the new Mustang GT.

I can't say the same about the GT500's & Shelby's, I think they let the price get out of hand.

I have also driven a few of the new body style Mustang GT's. I also really liked how they drove, handled, stopped, etc. It really was a nice car. Here is Southern Cal...I had the dealer down to $23k for a loaded GT. I did not end up buying the car, but I was this close...

On that note, I also drove a SRT8 Charger. Absolutely incredible car, but I could not see spending the $45k...

I think the most impressive thing about the Mustang GT's is the after market following those cars have. I know they are somewhat cookie cutter, but in some cases it actually makes the hobby more enjoyable...parts that are readily available.

Just my $.02

Thanks,
OldMoparsRule

I really don't care about cookie cutter myself - if I like it I like it and don't worry about what other's are doing too much - not that I am absolutely immune to it though.

I have driven an R/T Magnum and really like it - if the dealer took my offer and trade-in I'd probably own it.

And I too have driven the powerhouse SRT8 Charger ... a friend of mine got his off the lot for $35K cash. I really liked it, but it's over the top for my taste ... just a bit excessive all the way around, plus it takes prem fuel and gets soso mpg.

What I like about the Stang is that it's just like the Duster (with a bit less trunk and back seat room ... reg fuel, nice daily driver, easy on the eyes and not too `spensive ... plus, good resale.

Don't know if I will buy it yet - I have only ever bought a new car once before and hate parting with the $ you know. Also, it'd probably mean selling the '75 Valiant that I drive to work in now, and I really hate to part with it - indeed if it was a 2dr I don't think I'd even consider parting with it.

PS: Can not believe I have not gotten flamed ;o) ... holding my breath ...

Consider yourself flamed.
Personally, I like a Ford as a daily driver but my choice is an Escort. When they are tired and on their last legs you are still looking at 35MPG. Besides, people will almost pay you to take them away. I'd rather wear out a Ford running here and there and keep the miles off my Mopar. When I absolutely have to be there in a ridiculously short time, I break out the Valiant. My only problem with the new cars is the fact that you shell out huge amounts of money and the only people that benefit from it are the banks and insurance companies.
It's your money. Spend it as you see fit.

I drove a new GT last year "just to make sure" before I got my Charger R/T. I even drove the Mustang first! The only Fords I have ever owned was a 1974 F-150 for my cabinet shop.and a 1972 Capri when I was stationed in Holland (loved the Autobahn!)
The Mustang hauled *** and handled great but I thought it was very uncomfortable. I felt as though I was sitting in a bucket what with the height of the center console. AND as close as I was to the salesman in the passenger side, I could barely hear what he was saying! It is a very noisy car.
I do love the style and yeah, Ford did that retro right on, however, I actually got a two year lease on my R/T and it is up about three months after the Challenger comes out...........guess what I'm buying when the lease is up!!!!
Bottom line for me is, if you like it what the hell does it matter what anyone else thinks of it, it's your money after all.
Happy Driving whichever car it is!

As to the heading about getting flamed - I don't really care ... that was just a joke.

Yeah, it's not really about what opinion you'll have of me if I buy one - not that I don't value your opinions at all ;o)

What this is about is what youz think of the car from a mechanical standpoint - you know ... engineering and build quality. I suppose I got my answer; I just wanted to clarify.

I can't comment on the mechanicals cause I don't know. The body is beautiful to look at, although like most cars, some colors and packages make me look twice, others blehhh. Up here, where salt is used, the only thing I can comment on is rust. All Fords seem to rust bad, and in all the unusual places. Don't know if this is the case with the 'stang, but it would be a shame to be driving a rustang before it's paid for.

My wife has a 2000 GT convertible, we've never had a problem with it, hauls ***, gets decent mileage and has traction lock so you can drive it in the snow without any issues  A buddy bought a 2007 GT and I haven't heard any complaints from him either.

Yeah Rob, seems about what I hear - that they are pretty good.

I would own one in a heartbeat, not car manuf. peredjudice at all. Just about every car maker out there with few exceptions has something good to offer, at least in a certain class or focusing on certain features.

But I'll take the old Mopars for the vintage musclecar category!

HaHa! finally, a grump :p

Yes, but Grump usually is right on things.
(My wife's family is from WV and is wrong about everything. How did that happen?)

Anyway, sometimes you just gotta get a "new" car. My mother needed one and Honda fit. Oh, well.
And since my wife is thinking of new wheels(88 Voyager, 100K) what about the Magnum with the life time power train warrenty? Might as well be different. At least they didn't put a bogus name on it. Like...................uhm Charger.

See the second page. Nice to dream.

Ace: " ... with few exceptions has something good to offer"

Now you've gotten my curiosity up ... what are those exceptions ... IYHO, of course ;)

I've never seen a Yugo I liked ANYthing about, for example. There's a few others...

Hey Dartley, if you're into a coupe (2 door) then you should take a look at the Honda Accord V6 with all leather and power everything. Great gas mileage and they hold there value and once you've driven it you'll throw rocks at that Stang. I know, my wife wanted a Mustang and we drove both and bought the Honda. It was a hands down winner no contest. It's quiet, smooth, goes like stink, great brakes and handles like it's on rails and did I mention power everything.

Terry

I always joke about how many Mustangs I see on the street. I will continue to do that. I did really like the new retro version in the beginning. I just see so many of them. It seems like at every street corner.

As long as you have an Abody I won't flame you. Ultimately its your decision if you get the Mustang or not.

If the new Mustang had a Mopar badge on it, and was as good a modern interpretation of a Duster or late 60's Barracuda, with a 300 HP 22+ mpg V8, 5 spd overdrive, etc, all capable of high 13 second ETs stock, and with a large aftermarket parts base, would you choose the Honda over it? ... I sure wouldn't.

The resale value on Mustangs - 5.0L up to date - is better than any Honda, and after 15 years ... way better. I see fair to good cond late eight/early ninty 5.0s still going for 3-5 thousand. Accords, once over 10 years old are just old cars - a 20 year old Accord - if it isn't part of the soil again - isn't worth anything - few hundred maybe, unless it's California clean.

But a large part about the Accords is that I don't fit in it. I am not an especially large guy, but I've sat in the last gen Accord coupe`. I obviously can't comment on the redesigned '08 and my head was constantly brushing the interior of the roof and no adjustment would compensate. So it's out right there. I had driven the last gen Mustang, and did not buy it principally for the same general reason of poor ergonomics ... not the roof this time, but rather the location of driver necessities; to reach the shifter w/o getting feeling like I might dislocate my right shoulder, my knees were up knocking against the dash - and again, nothing would compensate for it. So that was out. I have no idea why, but the 5.0L up to '92 were a better fit than the '93 to '04 models, could just be the dash and seats - dunno.

I drove the current Mustang and it it's a good fix ergonomically for me - vastly improved over the Fox body version.

I have driven the 4-dr Accord and it's comfortable - the extra headroom makes the difference. But now we're talking V6 family car vs V8 coupe` ... just not a good comparo. I would consider the Accord if I wanted a 4dr - it's a nice car.

One more thing, and again this does not apply to the '08 redesign; I did not like the looks of the Accord coupe`. That's a personal thing and I mean no disrespect to you for choosing it, but I personally do not like it and neither did my wife.

Every once in a while there is a car you wish you never sold.

That car for me was a 92 Mustang 5.0 GT.The Fox body as they are called.Bought it new.One of my all time favorite cars, that I have owened. It was actually a Friday night car for me,polished in the garage and waiting for Fridays.Had a nice Alpine system in it,and the rest bone stock.Dam fun car to drive.

For a daily driver it is now Toyota's for me.In my opinion they are the best cars made today.

key word being today. I almost went way out in left field and was looking at vw touregs. adj suspension and ride heighth and engineered as well as a bemer ,very comfortable and roomy. Then i figured out i could drive my pos ranger 5 more years andrestore my cuda, excuse me wifes cuda.
