I'm sure if I pull it the cause will be obvious and I'm fairly sure I know what it is, but lets take some guesses based on symptoms just for fun.

Rolling down the road in 3rd (any speed) and I have a noise that sounds like a wheel bearing going bad. (kind of a muffled clattery roar) like a dry bad bearing.

It is directly related to driveline or road speed (also like a wheel bearing)

Turn back and forth left and right, no change

Gets quieter when everything is warmed up but still there.

On throttle/off doesn't make any difference.

Drop to second, no difference.

Can't tell anything in first or reverse because the car isn't rolling fast enough.

Pop it neutral while rolling and the sound winds down and goes away completely.

At that point everything is smooth and quiet.

Back into any gear noise comes back immediately.

It is only there when rolling and in gear.

So what do you think? :D

The planets are in line with Uranus!

Sometimes it feels exactly like that. :D
I was putting my 5.9 together, but now it looks like I'll be doing trans work instead.

No biggie, it's all in good clean fun.

I think mgunner meant the front ring "annulus" gear bushing.

I meant direct drum bushing.

Something like that allowing the alignment of the gears to slouch a little.... Maybe even a thrust washer gone away like the old fiber ones used to....
