Holes in k frame

So this is the 3rd k frame I have noticed has this hole in it and I'm wondering why that is there and why is it that the k frames from the 60s seem to have it and the later ones in n the 70s do not.

What would be the reason the factory would drill a hole under the motor mount??

Likely punched vs. drilled like the punched oval hole above it.

See the dimple in the motor mount beneath the stud? That rests in the hole in the K frame that you mentioned. Helps to keep the mount aligned as it's tightened, especially on the assembly line using power tools. The other side is the same with a matching hole in the block mount.

Yes,you are correct. I have seen mounts spun with the motor attached. I'm sure during installation and not corrected.
