Ah, the mix-and-match nature of Six Pack parts...
You've got a 4782
body, but the fuel bowl and baseplate have both been changed to production-style Six Pack parts. Not necessarily a bad thing since it should work well with any of the
production outboard carbs as configured. However, the fuel inlet is on the wrong side to work with the Direct Connection outboard carbs (list 4783) and the throttle lever lacks the connection point for the mechanical-secondary linkage (which was sorta hokey). The original 4782 fuel bowl is pure unobtainium nowadays.
An unmodified 4782:
Notice it's a side-hung bowl with a driver's side inlet. Factory fuel lines ain't happening. It's also missing the arm for the idle-stop solenoid, and the throttle connection is standard Holley rather than the Mopar-specific production part. The secondary linkage fits into the large hole seen below, and a throttle lever extension (Holley 20-7) makes it a lot easier to properly align and connect the throttle cable & kickdown linkage (true of almost any aftermarket carb).
All three Direct Connection carbs on the intake:
My outboard carbs are currently missing the pump arms, but the Direct Connection setup is a "triple pumper"--all three carbs have 'em. Because these carburetors were for racing, the end carbs used metering blocks rather than plates. A production-style (or any) center-hung bowl simply will not clear on the rear carb.
The 4782 & 4783 were the intended parts for the Weiand Super Stock 440 Six Pack intake, but you either needed a spacer, or to cut the bottom part of the throttle lever off. It wouldn't clear the plenum.
As I recall, you were asking about the 4791 4-speed center carb for your car. I didn't realize your 4782 was configured like this--I'd have simply suggested running this one as-is. If you haven't found a 340 Six Pack center carb yet, I'd
still suggest it. You can use a standard Six Pack rebuild kit and float if you deem them necessary, and all the factory bits (fuel lines, linkages, throttle stud/cable) will work splendidly. I'd definitely try using what you've got before laying out more money for a carb that may only work marginally better, if at all.
I opened this thread really hoping I was going to buy a carb.
I've already got a spare 4782 with the wrong float bowl, though.
